Office Checklist

This checklist can be used by office staff to assure that all necessary
actions to manage a biothreat have been completed.

  Infection control precautions instituted (apply the most stringent precaution for any infection included in your differential diagnosis)
    Preliminary list of patient contacts obtained if infection can be spread person-to-person (see guidelines for infections included in your differential diagnosis)
    Discussed with local public health expert representative (if clinical expert not available, contact State Health Department or, if unavailable, CDC (404-639-3011)
    Appropriate diagnostic specimens obtained (see guidelines for infections included in your differential diagnosis)
    Appropriate empirical treatment instituted (obtain current advice; do not rely upon potentially outdated recommendations)
    Patient family or contacts educated, placed under clinical surveillance if indicated, and given appropriate preventive care, as needed
    Public health authorities notified about case and disposition.
